Hey Jeff (and anyone who wants to play with it),

Give the member board a try - I still need to add the photo upload, so it's not ready for people to put info in yet, but you can see if you like how it's coming...

Yep - that's easy :)

Nick,

Way cool on the member board! Is there a way to just display the list of members without the entry fields and just have a button to click to open up the member info entry screen? Like "Join Now" or "Become a Member Click Here"???

I put a little mock up of what the member pages would look like with the changes. It's not working yet, but gives an idea of the layout:

http://guitarz.org/members

There will also be an image upload, which will display right in the "existing members" listings.

My suggestion is to keep using your photos on top. It doesn't matter so much to me, but keeping the same image as the pappg.com home page will make the site look more tied together (it's a general guideline that people respond better to design similarities on the same site. They get itchy when shoved to a page that looks different). Plus I think your graphics look nice :) You have a much better sense for visual stuff than me, though - I just sorta stick with what's worked for past projects, and stick to the norm. Maybe just ask the other guys what they like to get a consensus for the preference. The design is a big part of what people think of the site, and I have very little skill at that. Lemme know what you think...

I'm thinking just take out the header photos or screen shot. No need for the home link or the the grey area the word "home" sits over.

This is really great if you can easily change the look as desired. Got a good photo, just put that at the top instead of the same as the web page.

Never mind, For just posting messages, it's great! Actually really great!

Jeff

I like it but you still have "post a new public message" which should say "add member information"

Any luck with field prompts for:

Name:
Address:
City, State, Zip:
Phone:
Email:
Motor:
Wing:
Years flying:

Hey Jeff,

Test this out a bit - it seems stable, and should be ready to use. If you like it, just link to:

http://guitarz.org/pappg

(NOT http://guitarz.org/pappg/index.cgi - that link won't refresh properly).

We can put a link up to the old board in a post, in case anyone wants to look up old messages there (I'll also make a copy of it on this server, in case it ever goes away). I'll get started on the member pages next...

Date/Time: 20-Feb-2008/12:20:33-8:00           edit | delete           Name: Nick

I added automatic linking. Now any http link will be automatically clickable, and will open in a new browser page:

http://guitarz.org
http://yahoo.com

I also added some code to properly display carriage returns in the text (so that all the text isn't on one line).

I just converted everything to post method so that it's a little more secure - just gonna test it a little to make sure everything still works correctly. Then I'll make up the members pages, with the other fields, and the inline images. (We should keep the inline images out of this message board, so that the messages load faster, and so that people can upload other types of files too - the way it is right now, with links).

Nick,

So how long do you think it will be before we can convert over to the all new member board complete with pitcure post?

Date/Time: 20-Feb-2008/8:16:22-8:00           edit | delete           Name: Jeff

It works now no problem

Oooh - I see what happened - the date changed on that edit. Did you do that manually? I can take that off the edit page, and it should eliminate the possibility of creating duplicates instead of edits... Can you try the edit feature again? I'm using it here without any problems...

Date/Time: 19-Feb-2008/23:36:47-8:00           edit | delete           Name: Nick

We can put in any fields we want on the member pages (I wrote 99% of the code that makes this go, so I can make it do absolutely anything I want :). I don't see how it's possible that an edit created a double post (EDIT - see above). Putting images inline is no big deal, and I can put an upload image on each entry. Lost password function is also no biggy. Finding time to write the code is the challenge :) (this is an edit)

You should have: edit / delete / upload image

Oops! It made a baby instead of updating the original. can you fix that?

Do you think this will be hard to fix?

Date/Time: 19-Feb-2008/13:00:17-8:00           edit | delete           Name: Jeff

Hey! The delete and edit works great!

Change "Posted Messages" to Member Information or something like that and you have a winner if you can also add a spot for the photo to go.

Even if you can't add specific input fields like first name, last name, age, city, wing, motor, years flying, phone, email, etc., at least the user can add what he or she wants when they want provided they don't forget their password.....maybe have a lost my password button just in case.

I just uploaded a photo of a ppg inflation. Although you can upload files of any type (images, videos, computer programs, etc.), please keep file sizes small, and please put videos in the video section of the web site. (NOTE: This message was enterd without a password, so cannot be edited).
